After last year’s Trouble in Vegas was thought to be the last ever, tournament directors got together and decided to keep the tradition alive. Defending champions Arizona Sunburn returned to the annual tournament to defend the champion title.

We began our day on Saturday playing in the power pool. We started strong getting a 12-9 win over North Texas in the first round. Second round, we played #3 (Sky’d) ranked UCF and after playing up and even for most of the game, we faded at the end and lost a heated and closely contested game 13-11. Coming off that loss and looking to rebound in the third round, Sunburn fought hard for a universe point victory over Colorado College, 12-11. To end our day we played a tiring game against UBC. We weren’t playing as well as we should have and lost a very frustrating game to end our day, 12-9. We were re-seeded from 4th to 3rd in the power pool and would begin play in the championship bracket on Sunday. After a buffet and more fun than is imaginable in Las Vegas we showed up ready on Sunday.

Boise State was first up and we started strong and smooth earning a big win early Sunday morning, scoring 13 to Boise State’s 6. Next we encountered a tougher opponent in Oregon State. After trading breaks, the game went to universe, with Sunburn on offense, and we once again came away with a universe point this tournament.

After that win we had no time to rest as we were given a second chance to beat UBC in the semi-finals. We started the game off with a huge break, but after that our team seemed tired, and out of sync making simple errors that took us out of the game early. The second half we become more on track but it was too late as we lost the game to end our tournament run. We finished up tied for third with Colorado College. Showing huge improvements from President’s Day, Sunburn is looking to build off the many positives from this tourney to become a better team.

Also, the Bucklers fielded a team of 18 and went and had the time of their lives. They won some games, partied hard, and had a blast. Their on field highlight was best summed up in the words of their Captain Sticky, “ASU-B team RUDELY DEFILED in the name of ULTIMATE. Ninnies: FOUND. Ship: BOARDED. Plank: WALKED.” Off the field what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.
